On invitation of Prof.Geetha Bali,General President of Indian Science Congress Association 2011-2012 , Telemedicine Society of India organized a session on Telemedicine with the theme “Health care without borders-The Telemedicine way” during Indian Science Congress 2012 held at Bhubaneswar from 3rd to 7th January 2012.The session was held on 4th Jan 2012(Wednesday) from 09.00Hrs to 13.00 Hrs.The keynote address titled "Technology enabled Medical Research & Health care" was delivered by Dr.V.M.Katoch, Secretary to Govt. of India, Department of Health Research (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare) &Director General, Indian Council of Medial Research,Ramalingaswami Bhawan,, Ansari Nagar,New Delhi 110029.
Guest lectures were delivered by Dr.Remilla Murthy,Dy.Director,Business Development(Remote Sensing) Antrix Corporation Ltd. ISRO,Bengaluru(Topic:Space Technology and its innovative applications by ISRO- The Harbinger of Telemedicine Program in India).Mr.L.S.Satyamurthy, Ex-Director, Antix Corporation & Program Director for ISRO Telemedicine program, Bangalore & Vice-President,Telemedicine Society of India(Topic:Tele-health systems and practice, where does India stand now in Global context),Prof. B.N.Mohanty, Head, Dept. of Experimental Surgery& Chief Nodal Officer,Odisha Telemedicine Network, S.C.B.Medical College, Cuttack,Odisha and Hony.Secretary,Telemedicine Society of India(Topic: First Decade of Indian Telemedicine Program and its impact )and Prof. K.Ganapathy, President, Apollo Telemedicine Networking Foundation,Chennai. & Immediate Past- President, Telemedicine Society of India (Topic:Evolution of m Health in India and world at large: Possible Impact in 21 Century Health system).
Subsequently Prof. S.K.Mishra, Head, Department of Endocrine Surgery & Nodal Officer, SGPGI Telemedicine Program, SGPGIMS, Lucknow (UP) and president-elect, Telemedicine Society of India(TSI) delivered his lecture on " Capacity Building & Translational Research in e-health-Need of the hour" through videoconference.Dr.Mandakini Pradhan, Additional Professor & Head, Dept. of Reproductive and Child Health, SGPGIMS, Lucknow delivered her lecture on "impact of ICT in meeting the challenges of health related MDGs" from Lucknow and demonstrated through live transmission foetal ultrasonography emphasising the role of Tele-Ultrasound for remote monitoring of high risk pregnancy.Subsequently an operative procedure was performed for large goiter by Dr.Anjali Mishra, Associate Professor, Department of Endocrine Surgery in the operation theatre at SGPGIMS,Lucknow which was transmitted live to the venue at Bhubaneswar and she talked in detail on application of Telemedicine in Surgical Education and Post-operative Care.
The delegates of the science congress participated in large numbers and interacted with the speakers.The host institute KIIT,Bhubaneswar offered all necessary technical support to hold the videoconference activity extremely well.
