The 3rd National Conference of the Telemedicine Society of India was to be held in conjunction with the 12th International Conference of the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth on 2nd & 3rd November 2007, in Chennai. Telehealth is relevant in South Asia, where health resources are limited and giant strides are being made in Information & Communication Technology. This conference would serve as a one-stop-shop to review the current issues in Telehealth, with specific reference to developing countries. The meeting organized by Apollo Hospitals, Sankara Nethralaya and Sri Ramachandra Medical University was supported by ISRO, Department of Science & Technology Govt. of India. About 40 delegates from overseas were expected. About 400 delegates were expected from India. Sri Madhavan Nair Chairman of ISRO, Dr. Prathap Reddy, Chairman Apollo Group, Dr. Badrinath Chairman Sankara Nethralaya and Sri V.R Venkataachalam Chancellor SRMC. Prof.K. Ganapathy Head Apollo Telemedicine and Founder Member and Treasurer of the Telemedicine Society of India was the Chairman of the Organising Committee Guest lectures from global experts will highlight cutting edge technology. Panel discussions would deliberate upon down-to-earth, practical problems faced by rural India. The pioneers of Telemedicine in India would share their teething problems and demonstrate how persistence has ultimately paid off. The trade exhibition would showcase need based; cost-effective, customized appropriate technology that can be used to ensure outreach of healthcare.
