L.S. Satyamurthy was born in the year 1946 .in Bangalore,India. He obtained the Batchelor Degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in 1967-68 and the Graduate of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers(IETE), India in 1970.
.He initially worked at the Controllerate of Quality Assurance, Ministry of Defence,Govt of India, for about 5 years in the areas of:
a) Standardization of electronics and communication equipments and components. b) Type approval qualification of Electronics components c)Inspection and testing of communication and Radar equipments. d)Technical documentation.
After joining ISRO Satellite Center, Bangalore in 1974, he worked for the first Indian Scientific Satellite Project “Aryabhat” Subsequently for about two decades, he had successfully worked for ISRO in different capacities of Section Head, Division Head and Group Director in the areas of Reliability and Quality Assurance of satellite system. He was responsible for the complete development and implementation of Reliability and Quality Assurance program covering the Parts and Material control, Fabrication and Process control, Reliability Engineering and Test & Evaluation of subsystems and systems and the technical documentation, for the various Communication and Remote sensing Satellite programs of ISRO namely the Indian National Satellite System (INSAT) and Indian Remote Sensing Satellite System (IRS).
From 1993-98 Mr. Satyamurthy was the Counselor of Space Technology at the Embassy of India, Washington D.C. USA, during which period he was responsible for Initiating and implementing the various International co-operation and Business alliances with the US industries and agencies for ISRO.
After his return to India, Mr. Satyamurthy was the Group Director, System Engineering and Reliability at the ISRO Satellite Center and worked for the development of Advanced Communication and Remote Sensing Satellites produced during the period.
He joined ISRO Headquarters in year 2002 and executed the dual role as:
a) Director, Business Development at Antrix Corporation (Marketing arm of ISRO)
b) Program Director, Telemedicine Program at the Satellite Communication Programs Office of ISRO which has been responsible for the major development of Satcom based Telemedicine /e Health in India.
As Program Director, Mr. Satyamurthy successfully implemented the Telemedicine Programme of ISRO and had extensive interaction with the various state governments, NGOs, private hospitals, equipment industries federal government organizations for propagating the benefits of Telemedicine/ e Health Technologies to reach out to the Rural and Remote Population of India This has resulted in creating major awareness of Telemedicine in the country for adaptation of Telemedicine technology for Indian Healthcare system. Under his effort, ISRO successfully commissioned SatCom based Telemedicine Centers in more than 350 Remote/Rural District/Medical College Hospitals including 15 Mobile units connected to 45 Super Specialty Hospitals and premier medical institutions in the country.
As Director, Business Development at Antrix Corporation, Mr Satyamurthy was responsible for bringing business alliance with international space industries for ISRO building the advance communication satellites apart from marketing of ISRO capabilities to deliver space products and services for some of the global customers.
Mr.Satyamurthy recently retired from ISRO in March 2009 and is presently the Senior Advisor at DEVAS multimedia pvt Ltd at Bangalore and Secretary Telemedicine Society of India.
Mr. Satyamurthy has published number of papers on Telemedicine and e-Health in the National and International Journals and has made presentations on the experiences of implementing Telemedicine in India in various International Forums.
