Saroj Kanta MISHRA is a full time professor and Head of Department of Endocrine Surgery at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, India. Born in 1956 in Cuttack, Orissa did his Bachelor in Medicine (1978) at Medical College, Berhampur and Masters in General Surgery (1983) at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. After a brief tenure as faculty in General Surgery at PGIMER, Chandigarh he joined as a faculty at SGPGI, Lucknow in 1989 and was instrumental in setting up academic department of Endocrine Surgery. Since then he has been heading the department; steering the clinical, teaching, training and research in this discipline.
Developed a passion towards working with ICT in health care & education in developing country scenario and got involved in application oriented Telemedicine Research, Development & Deployment Projects since 1999. Research collaborator in various national and international e-health projects, Member of National Task Force on Telemedicine, Member and Chair of various national E-health Project review committees and ITU, WHO and UN e-health expert. He has several research publications in the field in peer reviewed medical journals and contributed chapters in three books. Instrumental in establishment of Telemedicine Society of India at Lucknow in 2001 of which he is the current President Elect and has organized two national and two international conferences in telemedicine and e health. Towards capacity building and creating an infrastructure and resources for training, research, domain support and industry interface, he has been successful in setting up a School of Telemedicine and Biomedical Informatics at SGPGI Campus with the support of Govt. of U.P. which is now recognized as the “National Resource Center in Telemedicine & Biomedical Informatics” by DIT, MCIT, Govt. of India. Since it’s establishment it has trained WHO sponsored trainees from Maldives and is gearing up to meet the demand from the state governments.
